Terramare – Consulting, Design and Construction of Aquariums Ltd and AAT – Advanced Aquarium Technologies Pty Ltd signed a cooperation agreement for the creation of a mixed capital company that will build Public Visiting Aquariums in Brazil and other South American countries.

Public Visiting Aquariums can be considered as “Water Zoos” that exhibit aquatic animals in their respective environments. They inform, they educate and cause an awareness in people that in turn brings care for the oceans, rivers and other freshwater environments. The attraction and fascination they exert makes aquariums one of the most powerful means of environmental education not to mention their tourism value. Worldwide there are hundreds of public visiting aquariums and new installations are being opened every year. Several cities and towns across Brazil either have or are preparing to install aquariums.

Terramare is a company associated with the Ubatuba Aquarium, and has fifteen years of experience designing, building and managing aquariums. Terramare has also participated in related projects, such as: Aquarium Ubatuba / SP; Oceanarium Aracaju / SE, Aquarium of the Rio Sao Francisco / BH; Aquariums School Park SABINA / SP Projects and recently the OceanariumBrasilat the Federal University of Rio Grande -FURG/RS; there is also the Pantanal Aquarium in the state of MatoGrosso do Sul.

The partnership of Terramare and AAT is an amalgam of Brazilian and worldwide expertise. Thus a real knowledge of Brazilian marine environments together with the highest standards aquarium design and construction promise the very best standards for aquarium building; furthermore practical experience, the highest technical and economic reliability mean feasibility and success for the various Brazilian undertakings.

The Executive Director of Terramare, oceanologist Hugo Gallo Neto, has expressed the following opinion “With an ever increasing demand for building bigger aquariums throughout the country and Brazil’s advances in technology the time is ripe for this partnership so that I believe we have found in AAT a company with international experience and an ideal partner, sharing the same principles of environmental conservation, excellence in design, creativity and innovation for the conception and realization of leisure and educational projects that combine the aims of Environmental Conservation with the Social and economic development”.
