Bristol Aquarium has appointed an environmental scientist with a keen interest in turtle rescue as their new manager.
David Waines, 35, has spent the last seven years working as manager of the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, Cornwall.
During his time there he has helped to successfully rescue, rehabilitate and release a total of nine sea turtles.
In addition to his work with sea turtles, David has also won a number of tourism awards including winning commendations in the Cornwall Tourism Awards and a Gold Award in the South East Tourism Awards.
He says he is relishing the challenge of managing one of the UK’s best aquariums.
“I have taken a keen interest in the development of the Bristol Aquarium since the start and am looking forward to the challenge of getting to grips with a city centre attraction and its associated market, while continuing to develop links with other attractions and businesses from Bristol and the surrounding area, ” said David.
“Bristol is a hugely exciting and vibrant city which my family and I are thrilled to become a part of. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to continue my career in an area that I love and one which employs such a diverse range expertise on a day-to-day basis, ” he added.
