RIPLEY’S: Move Over ‘Smart Car’, ‘World’s smallest Car’ Line Arrives in New York

Peel Trident—Now On Display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square—Could Cure NYC Parking, Congestion and Carbon Woes Overnight!

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square proudly unveiled for display the Peel Trident—part of the world’s smallest production car line –that could cure New York City’s parking, congestion and carbon woes overnight.

The 150-pound, battery-powered vehicle was designed as a “city car” by the Peel Engineering Company in the 1960’s, according to Ripley’s. The Peel car unveiled today was specifically made for Ripley’s this year. It can travel up to 40 miles-per-hour and hold two passengers, or one passenger with a shopping bag. Because of its size, more than  200 Peel Tridents could  be parked on a single block (400 with double parking). The Trident is street legal in London, but not yet in New York.  Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square thinks it should be.

“The Peel Car now on display at Ripley’s Times Square could be the answer to New York City’s traffic woes, ” said Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square General Manager Michael Hirsch. “Why do we need all these giant, multi-ton vehicles on our streets when the environmentally-friendly Peel Trident can do the job? The Peel car could revolutionize the way we get around town.”

Some Peel Tridents come with another convenient feature seemingly built for New Yorkers: a handle. On alternate-side-of-the-street parking days, New Yorkers could simply roll their Peel Tridents across the street like wheeled luggage.  And unlike mini-scooters, The Peel has a roof and a manual windshield-wiper, so it offers drivers protection in the rain.

The Peel Car will be on display in the “Gallery” on the first floor of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square at 234 West 42nd Street in New York City. It will be located next to Ripley’s World Tallest Man exhibit (Robert Wadlow, 8’11.1”).

“From our location on West 42nd, we see vehicles built for eight belching smoke all day long, empty but for the driver, ” Mr. Hirsch continued. “It makes one wonder, ‘why not take a Peel’? It’s the perfect around-town car.”
