Visitor Attractions: President Obama Come to San Antonio with Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

News

On Thursday, June 11 at 10:15 a.m.  Ripley’s Believe It or Not! & Louis Tussaud’s Wax Works of San Antonio will unveil a remarkable life-like wax figure of the President of the United States – Barak Obama.

The wax figure was created by Sonya Vasquez, wax artist for Ripley Entertainment who spent 40 hours a week for four months creating the wax figure.

Obama’s hair proved to be a time-consuming task.  A sewing needle was used to put each strand of actual human hair into the wax figure and his body frame was constructed using real people to shape the molds.  The hardest part according to Vasquez, were the eyes.  The wax artist’s office walls were virtually covered with pictures of Obama from various perspectives and with different expressions while she worked creating him.

She decided to present a smiling president and she spent many days watching Obama videos while trying to capture his character.  The figure sports a jacket similar to the one Obama wore when he took the oath of office. He is standing behind a podium bearing the presidential seal. Vasquez has worked at the Grand Prairie Ripley’s Believe It or Not! & Palace of Wax making wax figures for 11 years.  She has also created Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush wax figures.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! & Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks are located across from the Alamo on Alamo Plaza at the corner of Crockett Street.
