Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh, North Carolina is introducing a new robot named ABBy to provide hands-on learning experiences.

The robot, created by technology company ABB, will serve as the centrepiece of the museum's new Futuropolis exhibit, which opens this winter.

ABBy is part of an immersive, play-based learning experience that introduces young learners to technology and the wide range of careers available in STEM and skilled trade professions.

“We’re excited to bring this one-of-a-kind experience to children and families,” said Jonathan Frederick, CEO of Marbles Kids Museum.

“When industry leaders like ABB and Marbles come together, we create new ways for families to play, learn and connect," he added.

"Our shared commitment to education and the local community is the foundation of this partnership, and we can’t wait for kids to explore real-world ABB technology and get inspired about future career possibilities."

Visitors to the museum will watch as ABBy processes, formulates, tests and carries out their commands, such as picking up, moving or blowing a ball into the air.

Guests will get to work alongside automation technology to understand how humans and robots collaboratively solve real-world challenges, and visualise themselves in roles in the technology and industrial sectors.

Per a press release, ABBy and the Futuropolis exhibit come as the US faces a shortage of skilled workers in fields like electrification and automation.

Kelly Kling, country holding officer at ABB, said: "As a long-time ABB leader, representing a company that proudly employs thousands of STEM and skilled trade professionals, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for the young people visiting the exhibit.

"We would be honored if, someday, they’re inspired to bring their talents to ABB."
