“World’s Biggest Stunt Show” Opens to Record Audiences

News

“Danger Island, ” the non-stop live action show featured at Chimelong Paradise in Guangzhou, China, re-opened to record crowds for the start of the Chinese International Labor Holiday. The new show adds freestyle motorcycles and an exciting new motorcycle fire slide to an already packed list of stunt vehicles, stunt fighting, special FX and pyro.

“Over 20, 000 people packed into see the shows, ” says Show Producer, David Draves. “This show is destined to become an icon. As the day progressed, the buzz about Danger Island went through the park like wildfire. We had standing room crowds. It was wonderful.”

Mirage designed and built the 4, 500 seat aqua-stadium in four months prior to opening in February 2007. The construction project included dredging a lake within the Chimelong property. The stage is 100 yards wide and includes a boat ramp, a jet-ski ramp, a submarine, a crashing jet, multiple slides for life, exploding towers, break-a-way walls and variable depth pool to accommodate the myriad of high falls and dives the Mirage team performs.
Action Director, Todd Lester exclaimed, “The cast and crew were just pumped. The new show is already so exciting, but with that much energy, we had amazing performances.”

Directing the new Danger Island was a huge undertaking, especially with the tight production and construction schedule. Mirage put together a two-man team of Todd Lester and Tim Lowry to coordinate over 250 special FX and the increased cast size.
The expanded cast includes 10 Shaolin monks and several martial arts sequences, along with freestyle motocross performers. Mirage has recruited top stunt and extreme talent from around the world to perform in “Danger Island”.

“Danger Island” will run through April 31, 2009. This extended contract represents the second phase of the project.
