Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the new six-acre Great Tides Waterpark for its Great Stirrup Cay expansion in the Bahamas.
The cruise line‘s expansion of its 270-acre private island is headlined by the new water park, which includes 19 waterslides and a nearly 800-foot lazy river.
Opening in summer 2026, Great Tides Waterpark also offers swim-up bars, a 9,000-square-foot splash zone, and “the industry’s first cliffside jumps”, Norwegian Cruise Line said in a press release.
“Great Stirrup Cay has always been an amazing part of the Norwegian Cruise Line guest experience and continues to be one of our highest rated destinations,” said David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.
“This new water park is an outstanding addition to our recent announcement about other amazing new amenities on the island soon to debut.
“With each phase of our enhancements, we’re bringing ashore more of what our guests love about sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line.”
New attractions at Great Stirrup Cay
Highlights in the upcoming water park include the Tidal Tower with eight thrilling waterslides, including racing slides and tube slides
Cliffside Cove features two different cliff jumps at 10 and 15 feet tall, as well as the Caribbean’s only family slide. Beneath this, guests will find a hidden cave bar.
The splash zone is designed for children and features an oversized tipping bucket, eight mini slides, and interactive water features.
As for the lazy river, this provides an immersive experience, with guests sailing through an illuminated tunnel with a “dreamlike bioluminescent scene”.
Ahead of the water park’s launch, new experiences are debuting later this year at Great Stirrup Cay, including a new heated pool and splash pad, a new multi-ship pier, a new welcome plaza, and an island-wide tram service.
Attractions include the 1.4-acre Great Life Lagoon pool area, as well as a recreational area called Horizon Park for games such as pickleball, mini golf and more.
