Universal Orlando Resort have announced the first details of the resort’s third park.
Volcano Bay will be a water theme park offering, Universal's news release says, “a whole new generation of experience that reimagines what it means to be a water park.”
With innovative attractions set to “forever change the perception of water theme parks”, Volcano Bay will be a highly themed tropical islands environment.
Water parks have lagged behind theme parks in immersive theming and branding but the industry has started to see the move towards more creative theming and IP application spearheaded by Cartoon Network Amazone with richly themed slides and attractions from Polin (see Humungaslide right), and the LEGOLAND waterparks. Construction has already started on Volcano Bay which is located within Universal Orlando Resort, just south of the Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and the opening date is reported to be some time in 2017.
