WhiteWater celebrates opening of Studio City indoor water park

New park has a space travel theme and is home to several firsts for China

WhiteWater, a leading waterpark manufacturer, provided all the water slides and water play equipment for the new indoor water park at Studio City in Macau, which opened to the public this April. The new park features several firsts for China, as well as some firsts in the world, and follows the success of Studio City’s award-winning outdoor water park, which opened in 2021.

The indoor water park is part of Studio City’s $1.3 billion phase two expansion. The overall building design, which is by Zaha Hadid Architects, is a contemporary version of Art Deco.

Space-themed water park

To create a water park where visitors can fully immerse themselves in the theme of space travel, WhiteWater’s designers and engineers collaborated closely with Melco Resorts & Entertainment. The use of unique fibreglass effects and treatments was one way that the firm brought this vision to life.

The water slides that emerge from the building are painted in vibrant metallic hues to reflect the bold geometries of the building’s façade and match its design in an elegant fashion.

Meanwhile, on the inside, fibreglass veils bring a futuristic feel to the water slides. For instance, the flume on the Tailspin is adorned with futuristic geometric designs. These water slides, which also feature translucent tubes, create a lot of excitement for bystanders. Add some colourful AquaLucent rings through dark flumes, and visitors will feel like they are part of an outer space adventure.

The first continuous loop Master Blaster

The water park’s Master Blaster ride is the first of its kind in the world to include a continuous loop course, meaning that the end and the start are the same. It circles back after 300 metres of up-and-down water coaster action along the indoor park’s perimeter. This is the first next-generation Master Blaster in China, and it offers thrilling vistas to riders thanks to numerous see-through windows that line the course. Family, friends, and those waiting in line can see and take photos of them laughing and screaming during the ride.

Along with the new Master Blaster, the park’s Parallel Pursuit and Tailspin attractions are also new slides for China, and both are Brass Ring Award-winners. Parallel Pursuit delivers competitive mat racing action while Tailspin blends the high-banking spins of a bowl with the quick descent of a flume.

Quality products and service

Studio City chose WhiteWater as the supplier for both the outdoor and the indoor water parks. Speaking about the firm, Melissa Chung, director of spa & leisure and attractions at Studio City, says:

“There are other manufacturers but I think the quality of WhiteWater slides is number one, not only in terms of the products. In terms of parts, we can easily access and order directly from WhiteWater. The timeline and the solutions they provide are met, especially the after-sales service, which is very, very important to us.”

“If you ask me, their products are great, but the after-sales support is even better.”

Last year, WhiteWater celebrated winning three Brass Ring Awards at IAAPA Expo 2022 in Orlando.
