WWA announces new dates for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

World's largest swimming lesson

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, organised by the World Waterpark Association, will now take place on July 16th, with participants free to host an event during June, July or August for more flexibility.

The World Waterpark Association (WWA) has announced two new date options for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). It was originally scheduled for the 18th June 2020, however, this has been changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Registration remains open until 17 August.

Host locations can participate on the new date of 16 July, or for extra flexibility during these uncertain times they can also host an event on any day in June, July or August. This allows them to still celebrate the event, and to send the Swimming Lessons Save Lives message.

Safety first

“Safety is always the first priority for our aquatics community,” says Rick Root, President of the World Waterpark Association. “The WLSL program has been an important education and promotion tool for thousands of pools, waterparks and learn-to-swim providers.

“Whether they join us on July 16th or another date in June, July or August, we want to work with as many locations as possible to ensure children and adults are exposed to water safety and learn to swim messages this season.”

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a way for all parts of the aquatics industry to send a vital message about the importance of learning to swim, as well as the key role of adult supervision to prevent childhood drowning, which is the leading cause of injury-related death for children aged 1 to 4 in the US. It is also the second leading cause for children under 14.

Since the first event launched in 2010, this message has been shared with more than two billion people in the U.S. alone. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson plays a key role in raising awareness.

The WLSL celebrated its 10th-year last year. The WWA will also hold their 40th-anniversary Symposium & Trade Show in Las Vegas from 6-9 October 2020.
