Zhi'ou Wang is a leading figure in Chinese digital art, with a particular interest in translating Chinese cultural heritage into immersive and technology-driven experiences. In 2010, Wang founded Black Bow, a Chinese multidisciplinary creative and digital-art production company
He is "a leading force in large-scale Chinese digital spectacle, best known as a visual-effects director on the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony", said one person who nominated Wang.
"His studio fuses traditional Chinese visual language with real-time digital media at architectural and civic scale. Few practitioners move as fluently between fine-art sensibility and the technical demands of live, monumental events, and his influence on a generation of Chinese media designers is considerable," they added.
