New habitat will contain a gorilla conservation centre

Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo has rebranded ahead of the launch of its new $66 million tropical forests habitat in 2025.

The 3-acre exhibit will feature dynamic environments, allowing the resident animals to choose how they use their space.

The tropical forests habitat will also contain a gorilla conservation centre with a state-of-the-art learning space for the public.

As for the rebrand, Brookfield Zoo and its parent organisation, the Chicago Zoological Society, are now know as Brookfield Zoo Chicago.

The zoo’s new logo now features a pair of lions instead of a bison, a nod to the stone lion statues that welcome visitors at the zoo entrance.

“Our refreshed identity serves as a springboard, marking the beginning of our visionary commitments for the zoo’s next century,” said Michael Adkesson, president and CEO of Brookfield Zoo Chicago.

“In an era defined by climate disruption and biodiversity loss, our refreshed identity recognizes the significant impact zoos have on conservation of wildlife and wild places.

“Our programs reverberate locally and globally to help shape a world where the balance between humans and wildlife is understood and celebrated, ensuring a legacy of conservation for generations to come.”

Ahead of its centennial in 2034, Brookfield Zoo Chicago will invest in new animal habitats, renovated facilities and the visitor experience. The zoo aims to become an immersive, living classroom.

“As Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s campus evolves, it signifies more than just physical changes; it embodies our dedication to innovation and progress in animal care and conservation,” said Adkesson.

“This evolution isn’t just about us; it’s about our Chicago communities and the world at large. We invite everyone to join us on this transformative journey, to own a stake in shaping the future of zoological excellence and environmental stewardship together.”
