China to Relocate 172,200 People to Make Way for Panda National Park

A new national park forgiant pandas will displace 172,200 residents of Sichuan province, reports Shanghai Daily.

Central government has already approved the project which will cover 27,134 square kilometres.

The park will encompass parts of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces.

74% of the park's total area is in Sichuan. Seven cities and prefectures, as well as 19 counties are involved.


Latest figures suggest that there are currently 1,864 giant pandas living wild in China and 471 in captivity.
