First zoo built to international standards opens in Pakistan

Dan Zoo, a 28-hectare day and night zoo, has opened its doors in the Bahria Town development in Karachi, Pakistan.

The zoo is the first in the country built to an international standard according to local reports. It will be open to guests in the evening as well as through the day.

Animals featured in Dan Zoo include the African lion, white lion, Bengal tiger, cheetah, Asian black bear, various type of deer, crocodile, ostrich, peacocks and several types of ducks. The zoo has been divided into several areas with each assigned the name of an animal.

In addition to the wildlife, the zoo also has a lake and a boating club. Transport around the complex is provided by Wild on Wheels, which uses golf carts to help visitors get around.

The zoo was inaugurated by Amed Hayat, chief operating officer of Bahria Town. He said that the zoo was a a spectacular addition to the city.

“Dan Zoo is a new addition to Karachi’s tourist attractions. Bahria Town stays committed to redefine community lifestyle and concept of healthy entertainment in Pakistan,” he added.

“The zoo has a lot of facilities and has animals from all over the world. We will make more additions as it progresses.”
