Niagara Parks has announced a $19 million redevelopment of its marina property, which will become a new waterfront destination along the shores of the upper Niagara River.
The three-year project will be funded by Niagara Parks’ earned revenue. The government agency aims to create a regionally unique destination with new public amenities and improved access to the shoreline.
The plans include substantial upgrades to the site and new amenities such as a restaurant and outdoor patio space, a retail store, and recreational public spaces across the waterfront area in Fort Erie.

“The Niagara Parks marina remains a key priority for Niagara Parks and a site that holds great potential for supporting new and repeat visitation to the area,” said Niagara Parks chair April Jeffs.
“We know how beloved this site is within the local community and we are proud to invest in its redevelopment to establish the marina as a new recreational hub along the south Niagara Parkway – providing benefits both for local residents and those visiting for the first time.”
The only marina on the Canadian side of the upper Niagara River is located 22 kilometres south of the Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three waterfalls that collectively form Niagara Falls. It has been operated by Niagara Parks since the 1960s.
RFP to be issued for design and build
Niagara Parks will be issuing a request for proposals (RFP) for the design and construction of the new marina.
Ontario’s minister of tourism, culture and sport, Neil Lumsden, added: “Niagara Parks’ planned redevelopment of its marina property will create a new recreational destination for the boating community, tourists and locals to enjoy.
“The improved public access and amenities that this new marina promises to offer will transform the Niagara River shoreline – benefitting the local economy and creating good-paying jobs.”
Last year, the Niagara Parks Power Station opened a new visitor experience called ‘The Tunnel’.
