Parques Reunidos takes over operation of Dubai Safari

Dubai Safari is now being operated by Parques Reunidos on behalf of Meraas

Parques Reunidos has agreed to take over the operation of Dubai Safari as part of its expansion in the Middle East.

Dubai Safari had been managed by Dubai Municipality but the organisation has handed over responsibility to Meraas, the main shareholder of Dubai Parks and Resorts operator DXB Entertainments. The change in management came at the order of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice-president of the United Arab Emirates.

Meraas subsequently reached an agreement with Parques Reunidos for the Spanish leisure attractions operator to oversee the day-to-day operations of Dubai Safari.

Parques Reunidos already operates Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks at Dubai Parks and Resorts on behalf of DXB Entertainments.

Dubai Safari opened in December 2017 and was immediately inundated with visitors, with more than 100,000 people attending in the first week. The Dhs1bn ($272.2m) attraction occupies 119 hectares and is home to more than 2,500 animals from around the world.

Dubai Safari offers an open safari experience, giving visitors the opportunity to see animals in an environment that recreates their habitat. The destination includes a Kids’ Farm that enables youngsters to closely interact with animals.

In addition to serving as a leisure attraction, Dubai Safari aims to help protect the environment through wildlife conservation. While operating the park, Parques Reunidos will conduct studies of Dubai’s nature reserves, and provide consultation on the conservation and breeding of local endangered animal species including the oryx and the Arabian leopard.

“We are grateful to Meraas and Dubai Municipality for entrusting us with the operation of a remarkable project such as Dubai Safari,” said Fernando Eiroa, CEO of Parques Reunidos.

“This agreement aligns with our continued international expansion efforts and offers us a valuable opportunity to leverage the expertise we have accumulated through the management of top-ranking animal parks around the world. It is also a testimony of the successful partnership we have built with Meraas by working closely on some of the company’s entertainment projects.”
