Visitors will see characters from the video game and learn about marine conservation

The Seattle Aquarium and Nintendo are partnering on a new exhibit inspired by the Animal Crossing video game series, opening on 7 October.

Visitors will meet characters from Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the aquarium while learning about marine conservation. They will also meet marine animals such as sea otters, harbor seals, octopus and hundreds of species of fish.

Additionally, the exhibit includes an Animal Crossing: New Horizons photo opportunity with an aquarium-themed background and characters from the video game, as well as themed creature descriptions presented by Blathers, an owl in the series.

There will also be standees of characters from the game, and a bingo scavenger hunt on smart devices.

Per a press release, the aquarium‘s partnership with Nintendo of America is running through 31 December, so there will be more themed activities to come.

Nintendo previously shared plans to take its intellectual property (IP) to “a variety of settings” beyond video games.

“We want to expand our video game characters to a variety of settings – not just in games, all while keeping their value,” said Nintendo game developer Shigeru Miyamoto. “In other words, we’ll be collaborating with various other companies.”

As part of these plans, the company is to complete a new Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan by the end of March next year.

Elsewhere, the Super Nintendo World land is already open at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan. It is under construction at Universal Studios Singapore and Orlando’s Epic Universe.
