WAZA Tenerife Annual Conference 2022

The 77th WAZA Annual Conference will take place on 23-27 October 2022 at Loro Parque in Tenerife. This year’s event will see a return to in-person events for influential zoos and aquariums around the world, following the online conference held in 2021.

The announcement coincides with the launch of the official conference website, which features information about the conference host, Loro Parque, rated as one of Europe’s top zoos by Tripadvisor.

Comprehensive conference information including local accommodation, as well as exhibition and sponsorship opportunities, are displayed online. Conference registration and the programme will be made available in the upcoming weeks.

A return to normality

A representative from WAZA says: “After two years of virtual WAZA Conferences, we are excited for the global zoo and aquarium community to come together again in person for the 77th WAZA Annual Conference.

“We will discuss how the global zoo and aquarium community has adapted to the challenges in the past years, as well as the exceptional work the community has achieved in the protection of animals under our care and in the field, despite such a challenging time. We look forward to greeting [the industry] in person again this October in Tenerife.”

WAZA president Dr Clement Lanthier adds: “We hope as many WAZA members as possible can join us this year, which is why we will have a WAZA Travel Grants programme to help members who need it most to attend the conference. The WAZA Annual Conference is a fantastic opportunity for members to learn more about what WAZA is doing, our plans for the future and ways for you to be actively involved in the global community.”

Questions about the upcoming event can be directed to the conference host by email. The site is accessible to prospective attendees at WAZA2022.org.

Last year, WAZA published a guide on the sourcing of sustainable forest products, in a collaboration with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
