BASE Xperiential, a creator of holographic and immersive cinema experiences for museums, zoos, aquariums, attractions and live venues, has launched the East Coast's first freestanding HoloTheater.
Debuting at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) with Dinosaur Discoveries: A Holographic Adventure, this installation reimagines how immersive learning centres can monetise underutilised space while engaging audiences with cutting-edge storytelling.
The HoloTheater combines panoramic visuals, spatial audio, and proprietary holographic projection to create fully immersive experiences—no need for 3D glasses or headsets. On opening day, guests were amazed as life-sized dinosaurs appeared to step off the screen and into their space, setting a new standard for interactive educational entertainment.
“We transformed an underutilized 1,100-square-foot space into an immersive holographic theater that now generates revenue while delivering a cutting-edge, one-of-a-kind guest experience,” says Dominic Roncace, president of BASE Xperiential.
“It’s a model that other venues can replicate to monetize unused space and introduce an exciting new holographic form of educational entertainment.”
A versatile attraction
The freestanding HoloTheater provides unmatched flexibility. It can be custom-built for small spaces starting at 1,000 square feet, expanded for larger venues, or adapted into existing classrooms, auditoriums, and theatres.

This versatility allows immersive learning destinations to transform underperforming areas into valuable experiences that boost attendance, social media interaction, and repeat visits.
"Audiences are loving the HoloTheater experience, and we are thrilled to transport our guests into extraordinary new worlds through this breakthrough technology,” says Joseph P. Cox, president and CEO of MODS.
“At MODS, we are committed to creating powerful, immersive experiences that spark curiosity, fuel imagination, and bring science to life for all ages. The HoloTheater represents a bold new chapter in that mission."
A strong content pipeline
Developed in partnership with MacGillivray Freeman Films, the leading independent producer of giant-screen films, BASE Xperiential is creating a strong content pipeline to ensure continuous programming throughout the year.
Dinosaur Discoveries is the first of several holographic experiences in development, allowing venues to keep offerings fresh and enhance marketing efforts.
Future holographic experiences include Ocean Giants: A Holographic Odyssey, set to be produced by MacGillivray Freeman Films and BASE Xperiential for release in 2026. Ocean Giants will showcase some of the most spectacular and mysterious creatures to have ever lived in the underwater world, both historically and today.

“With Dinosaur Discoveries as the first of many holographic experiences in production, we are building a strong content pipeline that enables exhibitors to maintain consistent programming and gain marketing efficiencies,” said Shaun MacGillivray, president and producer/director of MacGillivray Freeman Films.
“It’s an exciting way for museums to offer a truly unique experience while positioning themselves at the forefront of innovative edutainment.”
Creating share-worthy moments
In addition to operational metrics, the HoloTheater evokes emotional reactions and creates moments worth sharing. One guest remarked on the experience:
“When that T. rex walked into the room, my kids absolutely lit up. It was pure magic. They haven’t stopped talking about it and they’re already asking when can we go back.”

For institutions navigating a competitive landscape, HoloTheater provides a turnkey solution that increases revenue, revitalises underused property, and establishes venues as pioneers in immersive innovation.
BASE Xperiential will host private meetings during IAAPA Expo 2025, taking place this week in Orlando, Florida. Museums, zoos, aquariums, science centres, and attractions interested in bringing HoloTheater to their venue can schedule consultations and demonstrations by contacting the team via email.
