The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, England is expanding its dog-friendly days through the rest of this year.

Amid a growing trend for pet-friendly experiences in visitor attractions, the trial initiative was launched in November.

Following a review of the trial, the museum will continue to welcome dogs on Thursdays and Sundays for the rest of 2026.

Additionally, it is now welcoming dogs into its two historic pubs – the Bottle & Glass Inn and Elephant & Castle pub (downstairs only).

Previously, dogs were only allowed in the visitor centre and the Workers’ Institute & Café.

Pet-friendly experiences on the rise

In a statement on social media, the Black Country Living Museum said it will "stick to two days in a week, as we know it’s important that we can still offer dog-free days for those of you that prefer a dog-free experience".

"We can’t wait to welcome your furry friends on Thursdays and Sundays, so – make sure you’ve got your short lead, poo bags and treats at the ready for a pawsome trip back in time," it added.

Via the Black Country Living Museum website, dogs must be kept on a short, non-retractable lead, and supervised at all times.

Guests must clean up after their dogs, with bins provided across the museum. Also, dogs are permitted to enter the fairground but are not allowed on rides.

More visitor attractions are considering ways to include guests with furry friends, like Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s initiative, and Legoland Windsor’s Paws in the Park programme.
