Cosm, a global technology company that builds end-to-end solutions for immersive experiences, has joined forces with Universal Film and DreamWorks Animation to transport guests into Shrek’s “Land of Fairytales” through what will be the world’s first animated cinematic experience in Shared Reality.
The company has announced a multi-year, multi-film partnership with Universal Film to deliver more cinematic experiences in Shared Reality. The partnership begins with the 2001 Academy Award-winning animated film Shrek, in celebration of its 25th anniversary.
Created through collaboration with Universal Film, DreamWorks Animation, and Reel FX, Shrek in Shared Reality immerses viewers in the world of the original movie. Visitors can explore iconic locations such as Shrek's Swamp, Duloc's Arena, and Dragon's Keep and join adventures with Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, and other favourites.
The film remains the focus in its 16:9 format, while the environment—powered by Cosm’s 12K+ LED Dome and venues—shifts dynamically to enhance the humour and storytelling that define the film.
Bringing the swamp to life
“Shrek is an iconic franchise that continues to find new ways to surprise and delight audiences,” says David O’Connor, chief brand officer at Universal Entertainment.
“With Cosm, we’re pushing the boundaries of how fans can experience this beloved story beyond the screen with an interactive trip into Shrek’s world. This partnership opens an exciting new frontier for our brands and for the future of entertainment.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Universal and DreamWorks Animation to bring Shrek to Cosm as our next cinematic experience in Shared Reality,” adds Alexis Scalice, VP and head of Cosm Studios at Cosm.
“Our first animated film, Shrek in Shared Reality allows us to amplify the humor and irreverent charm that makes its story and characters beloved across generations.
"We are so proud to bring Shrek to life in this incredible way, for audiences to experience twenty-five years after its initial debut, and this newfound partnership continues to reinforce our confidence in what is truly possible for immersive entertainment.”
Universal Film now joins Cosm as its second major film studio partner, building on the success of Cosm’s initial four cinematic experiences in Shared Reality, which debuted last summer.
In this experience, featuring Shrek in Shared Reality, Cosm uses its immersive full-dome filmmaking technology for animation for the first time, breaking down barriers between the audience and the film and immersing fans directly into the world of Shrek.
Fans can enhance their experience beyond the screen with a themed menu, offering creative bites and swamp-inspired cocktails and mocktails designed for fans of all ages.
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced a $100 million strategic investment in Cosm.
This week, Cosm will have team members at IAAPA Expo Europe 2026 and will co-host the TEA Mixer on Wednesday evening.
