Disneyland Abu Dhabi is going ahead, says Miral CEO

Miral CEO welcomes Disney Experiences' new chairman

Miral CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi has confirmed that Disneyland Abu Dhabi will go ahead in a message welcoming Disney Experiences' new chairman Thomas Mazloum.

Announced last year, the world's seventh Disney destination is being developed and built by Miral, Abu Dhabi’s creator of immersive destinations.

The first Disney resort in the Middle East will be owned and operated by Miral in an arrangement similar to Disney's partnership with Oriental Land Company, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort.

Last week, Mazloum was named chairman of Disney Experiences, succeeding Josh D'Amaro. As of today (18 March), D'Amaro has replaced Bob Iger as Disney's new CEO.

Congratulating Mazloum on his appointment, while confirming that Disneyland Abu Dhabi will still go ahead, Al Zaabi wrote in a LinkedIn post: "Thomas’ vision, dedication, and experience within the global attractions industry and across Disney’s incredible portfolio, is inspiring to many of us in the industry, and I have no doubt he will continue to shape the future of experiences for millions of guests around the world.

"As we continue our exciting journey to bring Disney to Abu Dhabi, I look forward to working closely with Thomas and the incredible Disney team to turn this vision into a reality."

"Together, we will create something truly extraordinary for our region and guests. Wishing you every success in this new chapter, Thomas. I look forward to the journey ahead," he added.

Al Zaabi's message comes as conflict in the Middle East continues, which has raised uncertainty about whether the planned Disney park in Abu Dhabi will move forwards.

The theme park destination will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s culture, shorelines and architecture.

When it was announced, D'Amaro said it will be "the most advanced and interactive destination in our portfolio".
