Sharjah Art Museum first opened its doors on 17 April 1997 and is operated by Sharjah Museums Authority. Its vision is to be a cultural leader that strengthens Sharjah’s reputation both domestically and abroad and helps to raise community awareness of the value of museums as entertaining, instructive, and cultural hotspots. Its mission is to uphold the greatest museum standards in order to protect collections and improve cultural and educational awareness through our community, educational, and exhibition initiatives.
Across three levels, Sharjah Art Museum features collections of over 500 artworks in a variety of media and techniques. It holds a collection of modern and contemporary art by artists from the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries and hosts a range of temporary exhibitions and art events all year long. Meanwhile, the Art Library has more than 4,000 items in Arabic, English, and other languages, in addition to a wide range of audio and video resources.
