Daryl Karp Director and CEO Australian National Maritime Museum

Daryl Karp was appointed as director and CEO of the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) in March 2022. Beforehand, she had worked as a senior executive in the broadcast and cultural industries for more than 20 years. “Ms Karp brings extensive experience to her new role – having been director of [the Museum of Australian Democracy] since 2013 and previously holding executive roles in broadcast media, independent production houses and the public sector, where she demonstrated her high-level leadership and vision to address accessibility, digitisation and financial management priorities, said Paul Fletcher MP.

““On behalf of the museum council I welcome Ms Karp’s appointment. She brings a wealth of leadership experience from across the cultural sector and is perfectly positioned to steer the Museum forward as we navigate out of the disruptions of the past two years,” added John Mullen AM, chair of the ANMM council.

Before joining Sydney’s Australian National Maritime Museum, she served as the director of the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD). There, she addressed accessibility, digitisation and financial management. She also established a strategic direction that focused on ‘the spirit of Australian democracy and the power of your voice within it’.

Karp’s roles have included CEO and managing director of Film Australia, head of factual programs (television) at the ABC, and non-executive director for SBS. She is the chair of the Canberra Writers Festival. She also served as chair of the Council of Australasian Museum Directors from 2017 to 2021. Additionally, she has been on the boards of the Sydney Jewish Museum and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. Karp is a Fellow in the Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
