Museum already displays the only surviving full-scale model of the shark from Jaws

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles has unveiled its upcoming Jaws exhibition, which opens on 14 September.

The new exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and includes more than 200 original objects, behind-the-scenes stories, and interactive experiences.

It is the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ first large-scale exhibition dedicated to a single film, and the largest-ever Jaws exhibition to be staged.

ā€œThe Academy Museum celebrates film history and with this exhibition we can bring never-before-seen movie experiences to a public audience,ā€ said the Academy Museum’s director and president Amy Homma.Ā

ā€œThis exhibition will create a space where the worldwide community of Jaws fans can gather and relive the movie while giving new audiences the joy of discovery.ā€

On view through 26 July 2026, Jaws: The ExhibitionĀ includes an interactive recreation of the sand dune where the movie’s first victim, Chrissie Watkins, is discovered, as well as the prop head of fisherman Ben Gardner.

Since opening in 2021, the Academy Museum has housed the only surviving full-scale model of the shark from Jaws, named Bruce.

Additionally, the Jaws exhibition will be accompanied by a series of film screenings, exclusive new merchandise, and public programmes.

Senior exhibitions curator Jenny He said, ā€œIt has been absolutely rewarding to engage with so many outstanding collaborators to tell the story of Jaws through an exhibition, which is as thoughtful and revelatory as it is immersive and thrilling.

“All of us at the Academy Museum are deeply grateful for the invaluable support and insight we have received, working with Steven Spielberg’s personal archive at Amblin, the collection at Universal Pictures, numerous private collectors, and many of the Jaws filmmakers.ā€Ā
