Directors and senior managers from member organisations meet to explore ways forward post-COVID

Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums, is holding a Directors Forum at La Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris from 4 – 5 November 2021. More than 60 directors and senior managers from 17 different countries, from Ecsite full member organisations, are attending. They are coming together to reconnect and to explore ways forward, following COVID-19.

Bruno Maquart, CEO and Chair of Universcience and President of Ecsite says, “Our institutions, as well as our network, have been resilient during the health crisis, which has not yet come to an end.

“This year’s edition of the Directors Forum will allow us to analyse the role we have played both individually and collectively these last months; an opportunity to exchange views on the way the crisis is changing us. Policymakers, scientists and activists will be meeting in Glasgow for the COP26 and during the event, we will have a unique opportunity to share ideas on how we can address climate change.”

The role of science communication

One day one of the event, attendees took part in a range of collaborative sessions, looking at the role of science communication during the global pandemic and whether it was effective enough. Participants will also discuss how the COVID crisis can spark changes in the way their organisations are governed.

Following this, day two will focus on the key topics of the climate and biodiversity crises. They will virtually visit Glasgow as they explore the potential power of collaborations between media and science centres, for example, the current partnership between London’s Natural History Museum and the New York Times for the Climate Hub at COP26.

To keep up to date with the event, follow the hashtag #EcsiteDF2021 on Ecsite’s social media pages.

Earlier this year, science engagement professionals from around the world met virtually for the annual Ecsite conference, which featured keynote speakers, expert-led sessions, workshops, networking opportunities and more.
