Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums, has announced two top keynote speakers for its upcoming conference to be held in Heilbronn, Germany.

Event organisers have confirmed that over 500 science engagement professionals have already signed up and benefitted from the event’s early bird rate.

Educator and author Sinéad Burke is a renowned advocate for accessibility and equity. Her consultancy, Tilting the Lens, highlights everyday inaccessibility, assisting Gucci, Netflix, Starbucks and other international brands in their transition from awareness to action.

Burke has previously appeared on stage to audiences as a TED Talks speaker and a speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Making science accessible and entertaining to children, Lucy Hawking is the author behind the educational ‘George’ series of fantasy adventure novels.

Written in collaboration with her father, the late Professor Stephen Hawking, and other world-leading scientists, the George series has been published in over forty languages, including Xhosa and Zulu.

Specific details about the keynotes will be announced by Ecsite soon.

Burke will be at the conference on Friday 3 June, and Hawking will be speaking on Saturday 4 June.

Get involved and pitch

Prospective collaborators still have time to pitch their exhibition or project for the upcoming 2022 Ecsite Conference and are encouraged to submit their applications for travelling exhibitions, project showcases and hands-on activities.

Ecsite has two exclusive session slots available on Friday 3rd June dedicated to travelling exhibitions pitches. For each session, fifteen speakers will each have four minutes to present their new travelling exhibition to the audience.

A further slot on a Thursday afternoon is dedicated to non-profit collaborative projects with at least three different institutions. Experiments, hands-on activities and demos will take place at the Grand Bazaar on Saturday. Ecsite says that slots will be allocated on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.

Early bird tickets are now available for purchase from the Ecsite website.

Ecsite recently announced a grant for young professionals, made possible through the support of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation. Applicants must not be in top management positions, but can be self-employed, and must register their interest before 13 April 2022.
