Younger guests will learn about STEAM through interactive activities and unique exhibits.

Eureka! Science + Discovery, a new £11.4 million visitor attraction in Wirral, Merseyside, has opened its doors to the public.

The new science museum is a place for young people to learn all about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) through interactive activities and innovative exhibits.

Highlights include a 12-foot-tall cat with a swishing tail and a giant climbing tree, as well as areas exploring the human body, low carbon technologies and the environmental impact of fast fashion.

Also on offer is the ‘Make Create’ space. The Discovery Café and an exhibition area for younger guests called ‘The Burrow’ will open after Christmas.

“This project has been in the making since 2014, so we’re delighted we can now throw open our doors and share what we’ve been working on,” said Leigh-Anne Stradeski, CEO of Eureka!.

Located in Wallasey, one of the most deprived areas in the UK, Eureka! is expected to attract around 180,000 visitors every year and contribute £12m to the local economy by 2032.

The new attraction, which joins Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax, was created in collaboration with 120 children and young people.

“The enthusiasm from young people, families, and schools from across the UK has been overwhelming, and we’re excited that we’ll soon be creating magic moments and inspiring a new generation about STEAM subjects through exciting interactive exhibits you won’t find anywhere else in the UK,” added Stradeski.

“Eureka! has inspired, educated and entertained families for 30 years – and now we get to show a whole new generation how to reframe the way they view the world around them. What a privilege!”

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, said the museum will introduce young people “to topics like life sciences, digital innovation and green technology in a fun and refreshing way”.
