Expo 2020 Dubai is finally launching with the opening ceremony kicking off today, September 30.

Expo 2020 Dubai‘s star-studded opening ceremony is kicking off today (September 30), with viewing parties taking place across the UAE, followed by fireworks shows in Dubai.

The opening ceremony will be streamed live to more than 430 locations across the UAE, followed by a handful of fireworks spectaculars in Dubai on October 1.

Expo 2020 Dubai has set up screens in locations such as airports, shopping malls, hotels and other landmarks for the viewing parties, offering access to the launch celebrations.

The opening ceremony for Expo 2020 Dubai will also be accessible through a global livestream, available on Expo TV and virtualexpo.world from 7.30pm (GST).

Dubai hosting fireworks spectaculars

Performers include Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, American singer Andra Day, British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, and Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo.

Fireworks displays to mark the opening in Dubai will be held at Dubai Festival City, the Dubai Frame, and the Pointe, Palm Jumeirah.

Viewing party locations include more than 240 hotels, such as Emaar’s Rove, Atlantis, The Palm, Accor, Marriot, Hilton, IHG, Rotana, Jumeirah, and Hyatt International.

Other locations to host viewing parties include 17 Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls, 50 Jashanmal locations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, 97 Mediclinics, and Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports.

Expo 2020 Dubai launches official app

Expo 2020 Dubai runs from October 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. The event will bring together millions of visitors and more than 200 participants, including 192 countries

Additionally, Expo 2020 Dubai has launched its official visitor app, as well as a business-focused app. The official Expo 2020 app allows user to customise their visit to the site, which is twice the size of Monaco.

Guests can use the app to purchase tickets, select from more than 200 dining options, and manage reservations. The app is available to download via the App Store or Google Play.

Mohammed Alhashmi, chief technology officer at Expo 2020 Dubai, said the event is “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore new frontiers and join in a celebration of creativity, innovation, human progress and culture”.
