Mysteries of the underwater caverns are explored at a new Marseilles museum

Gantner Ticketing, a provider of software for museums, zoos, cultural heritage and visitor attractions, has revealed its work on the latest cultural museum to open in France. This new venue focuses on the Cosquer cave, a prehistoric undersea monument which is finally revealing its secrets to the public.

The Grotte Cosquer is a major visitor destination for the Mediterranean region and is part of the Cosquer Méditerranée complex which opened its doors on 4 June 2022.

Villa Méditerranée is an iconically-designed building with a comprehensive exhibition space, reception hall, retail area, European restaurant, and an auditorium for talks and events. The site, which was two years in development, has been designed to accommodate up to 5,000 tourists each day.

A 40-minute tour of a recreated cave is a core experience for the site. Purposely designed to be slow-paced, visitors board trackless vehicles travelling at less than 5cm per second.

Managing crowds

Gantner Ticketing recently announced that 2021 delivered its highest turnover to date last year, reaching this milestone despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the onboarding of several new clients. The firm was chosen as the attraction’s partner for ticketing and access control, assisting the Kléber Rossilon group with its official opening day for the public.

Approximately 13,000 visitors visited the site on Pentecost weekend in early June 2022, planning to discover the unique relaxing underground environment of Cosquer. With the site using Gantner solutions, the high volume of queueing guests could be processed easily, keeping the site running efficiently and lines moving whilst abiding with the capacity limits for health and safety.

A representative from the company says: “The Kléber Rossillon group needed an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)-type tool to manage B2C and B2B ticketing, stocks of articles and ingredients, mobile catering orders, online sales, MICE, access control and third-party interfacing (accounting). They have put their trust in Gantner by choosing us to manage their entire commercial activity.”

Gantner continues to innovate a range of solutions for attractions, including last year’s launch of the Enviso cloud solution. The future-proof system supports both day and timed-entry tickets, allowing operators to deliver tailored offers to guests.
