kubik maltbie, a leading producer of exceptional exhibits and experiences for museums, science centres, and immersive spaces, is celebrating the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, which opened in March 2025.
The National Medal of Honor Museum highlights recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest military award in the United States for valour in combat against enemy forces. This museum pays tribute to the brave men and one woman who have received this distinguished award, providing visitors with a chance to explore their stories and sacrifices.
The museum offers a variety of visitor experiences that showcase Medal of Honor recipients from US history, including military conflicts such as the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and more recent conflicts.
kubik maltbie worked on this project alongside interdisciplinary experience design studio G&A. The firm’s work began with pre-fabrication services, in collaboration with the museum and design team. kubik maltbie’s scope of work included but was not limited to exhibit fabrication, AV/media hardware integration, engineered casework, graphics production, exhibit lighting integration, base building coordination, and installation.

An inspiring experience
In the Medal of Honor Experience, the central theatre, visitors can view a massive 360-degree immersive film featuring authentic, larger-than-life footage displayed on both the outer concave projection screen and the central conical oculus.
Next, they can explore interactive areas along the walls of the space, which consist of large-scale panoramic projections, ambient soundscapes, and narration that immerse visitors in vignettes highlighting the actions of various Medal of Honor recipients.
Visitors can explore a fully restored Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” helicopter up close, or they can participate in a virtual leadership experience, with story created by the museum team and Wishcraft Simulations’ Trey Alsup, where they enter the battlefield for a Dustoff medical rescue mission.
There is also an opportunity to interview a Medal of Honor recipient through a digital interactive that connects visitors’ questions with previously filmed responses, facilitated by AI. The exhibition features a tactile interactive where visitors can explore the design and symbology of different Medals of Honor, along with various stations throughout the space that house Medal of Honor artefacts.
Collectively, these experiences offer a richer insight into the history and importance of the medal, while also motivating present and future generations to discover and develop the shared values inherent in every Medal of Honor recipient.
