Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land under construction at Disney's Hollywood Studios, will start opening next year, Disney announced at D23.

As well as confirming an opening date for Monstropolis, Disney has revealed some of the new land's experiences.

The Glob Theater, for example, will feature a new show titled 'Welcome to Monstropolis' that will highlight how similar monsters and humans are.

"Mike and Sulley will be our hosts,” said Chris Beatty, vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering.

“Sulley has been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike – ever the showman – has a few surprises up his sleeve that he thinks will bring down the house. Hopefully not literally."

F&B and retail experiences in Monstropolis will include Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, Harryhausen’s Restaurant, and the Scareporium.

Harryhausen’s Restaurant will spotlight the famed sushi chef as a new audio-animatronic figure, his many tentacles able to create various dishes.

Michael Hundgen, vice president creative at Walt Disney Imagineering, said the restaurant will feature "a menu unlike anything else we offer at Walt Disney World".

"It will be a great place to bring your Schmoopsie-poo for a romantic meal," he added.

In addition, the new land at Disney's Hollywood Studios will include the 'Welcome to Monstropolis' song, the first composed for a Disney park by Disney Legend Randy Newman.

As previously announced, Monstropolis will boast Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster, which will recreate the door vault scene from the film.

The coaster, which will open later than the land itself, also features the first-ever vertical lift in a Disney park.

In more news from D23, Disney World has announced a Maleficent roller coaster and a Magic Mirror dark ride for its villains-themed expansion at Magic Kingdom.
