Disney has reported higher revenue and income for its theme parks segment in the three months ending 27 June, also highlighting its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to drive growth.

In its third-quarter earnings, Disney reported a 10 percent rise in revenue from $9.086 billion to $9.968bn for its theme parks and experiences. Additionally, operating income grew by 20 percent from $2.516bn to $3.017bn.

Attendance rose by 4 percent year-over-year at Disney's global attractions, with particular strength at Walt Disney World and additional capacity at Disney Cruise Line.

Disney investing to "sustain growth"

Disney's CEO Josh D'Amaro said the company is "proud of the growth that we’ve had this year, and we’re investing to sustain that growth".

“The pipeline includes major attractions at every site, including Villains Land in Orlando and the Avengers Campus expansion in Anaheim, amongst others in the US, and our previously announced cruise ship expansion,” he added.

In the third-quarter earnings, Disney said it views emerging technologies such as AI as "a significant opportunity for our company to drive returns".

The company is using AI to design, build and operate its parks and experiences, including AI-powered digital twins and simulation tools to design and test new attractions, which are being leveraged for the new Abu Dhabi park.

Disney has also made its J.A.R.V.I.S. AI tool available to more than 2,000 Imagineers, and is applying AI to simplify the booking and planning experience for guests.

"Our company was founded on the convergence of creativity and breakthrough technology – and continuing that tradition is a priority for me and this leadership team," D'Amaro said.

"That’s why we’re leveraging AI to bring the most innovative tools to our storytellers.

"As I’ve said before, AI isn’t simply about efficiency – it’s about enhancing a creative process that will always be human-centered, artist-driven, and creator-led."
