Movie theatre chain, Cinepolis USA, is putting play gyms into its theatres to occupy fidgety children during performances. Cinepolis Junior is being billed as a new family theatre experience, reports Variety.
From March 16th, the Cinepolis Junior theatres will feature a kids’ play area. This will include play structures, bean bag seats and lounge chairs. There will also be a safe, fenced-off area for toddlers.
The hope is that by giving lively children something to do, there will be fewer disruptions during the film showings.
The theory is that this will therefore afford parents a more relaxing viewing experience.
The first two theatres to feature the new design are Los Angeles’ Cinepolis Pico Rivera and San Diego-based Cinepolis Vista. Both have seating for around 133 guests.
There will be a small surcharge for the experience.
Child-friendly films will be shown five days a week. Food and beverage options will also be targeted towards youngsters.
Equipment will include a 55-foot-long and 25-foot-high play structure with two slides, platforms with playground equipment, and hanging “fun forest bags” filled with foam. Kids will be able to play on fixed ‘wobble hoppers’ as well as “stand n’spin” mini merry-go-rounds.
