Creative Works brings sawmill-themed laser tag to Langer’s Entertainment

Creative Works, the theming company and attractions provider, has worked with Langer’s Entertainment to bring a unique Pacific Northwest-themed laser tag attraction to a new FEC in Sherwood, Oregon.

Creative Works is pleased to have collaborated with Langer’s Entertainment on a new laser tag attraction for the company’s brand new FEC in Sherwood, Oregon. The venue opened in September 2019 with bowling lanes, an arcade, rock climbing walls and high ropes courses, and has already proved popular with visitors.

Matt Langer is the President of Langer’s Entertainment and has achieved a long-held dream of opening up an FEC on the farm-land where he grew up. The Langer family is deeply connected to the local community in Sherwood, “My two daughters are 6th generation Sherwood so we’ve got a lot of passion for our little town of 19,350 residents,” says Langer.

Inspiration and research

Langer, along with his wife Nikki, began researching the industry over ten years ago. Near the start of this journey, after attending their first industry event in Las Vegas, they had a meal with Creative Works President Armando Lanuti, which provided them with much inspiration for the project, “He described many aspects of the FEC world and got us off-the-ground,” says Langer.

The pair made sure they were well prepared, by doing years of research and analysis. In 2015, they had enough data to begin the design and construction process. According to the Langers, their “entire facility is designed around the concept of commemorating the history of the timber industry, Sherwood, the Langer Family and Oregon.”

During the research process, the Langers also attended Creative Works’ 360 Event in February 2019, an educational event where they learned all aspects of operating an FEC.

Sawmill-themed laser tag

The venue sports a timber theme, and the two companies collaborated on a sawmill-themed laser tag arena to complement this. Langer says that the goal of the laser tag theme is “paying homage to the history that established this amazing community and a large part of that is rooted in the timber/logging industry.”

The area covers two-stories and 5,032 square foot. It takes inspiration from many local well-known destinations, including Multnomah Falls, Mount Hood, Steens Mountain, and Crater Lake in Oregon. A key element of the attraction is a giant Sasquatch prop that towers over the arena.

“Big Foot or Sasquatch is a common Pacific Northwest folklore that is still commonly seen today in a variety of media. It’s just a fun way to connect the community to the laser tag experience,” says Langer.

The Langers are planning expansion phases, starting in 2021, in order to cement their place as “Oregon’s premier family entertainment destination.”

This distinctive laser tag arena has impressed players and industry insiders alike, “I’ve heard some pretty exciting positive feedback from many local friends who’ve played our arena. When I walk an industry professional through for a tour, they all seem pretty blown away,” says Langer.

Langer and his team were happy with the work that Lanuti and Creative Works put in throughout the process. “Armando truly is a kid at heart and his team is empowered to execute on the most creative dreams we can imagine. Words really can’t express how much I recommend Creative Works.”

Earlier this month, Creative Works announced that LaserTAG360, its leading attraction education programme, has been rebranded as Amusement 360 and will now include upgraded training initiatives for startups and operators.
