Greenspan Projects Ltd., a creative design and build specialist for the visitor attraction industry, has worked on the two latest additions to the popular Boom Battle Bar chain of venues, now open in Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Boom Battle Bars bring the competitive socialising trend to the next level, with activities like karaoke, axe-throwing, shuffleboard, beer pong, electric darts and more, alongside quality bar snacks and drinks. Greenspan Projects was chosen to bring the ‘crazier golf’ courses to life at the new venues, with a range of immersive challenges.

Boom Battle Bar Edinburgh is now open, featuring one-of-a-kind games that can be enjoyed together for a memorable shared experience. The concept, which is ideal for date nights, trips with friends, team building and more, aims to bring a whole new level to competitive fun, which doesn’t always necessarily involve tech, gizmos, and gadgets.

Greenspan Projects was instructed to ignite imagination within the new venue at Edinburgh’s Omni Centre – bringing a variety of games to life to push the boundaries of traditional playability. Twisting the narrative of industrial elements gone “rogue”, the games are designed to take you to a whole new immersive level.

On the 9-hole crazier golf course, players attempt to putt the ball through the spinning spokes of a BMX bike or through the feet of a large foosball game, as their opponent tries to sabotage their chances by controlling these elements. Other tasks include a baseball challenge with a twist, looping the loop, putting over a skateboard, and strategically shooting the ball across sleek metal slopes. There is also the opportunity to soak up the world of augmented reality en route.

Martin Botha, manager of the Omni Centre, says: “We’re extremely thrilled to have Boom Battle Bar open at Omni, bringing new and exciting experiences that will enhance our position as a key entertainment destination in the city.”

Richard Harpham, the CEO of Boom Battle Bar adds: We’re beyond excited to open the doors of our epic new Scottish venue. Whether you’re tumbling down the rabbit hole into our Alice-themed escape room, trying your hand at axe-throwing, taking on an outside adventure or just stopping by to enjoy a delicious cocktail, this Edinburgh venue promises to be packed full of unmissable fun.”

Residents and visitors in Birmingham can now visit the new Boom Battle Bar location at Five Ways. The two-tiered venue has augmented reality darts, ‘crazier’ golf, axe throwing, karaoke, beer pong tables and more.

As at the Edinburgh location, Greenspan Projects’ neon-lit, hand-crafted take on adventure golf takes visitors on a journey through different themed levels, immersive challenges, and chances to outwit their opponents using unexpected obstacles.

Speaking about the opening of this new location, Harpham says: “We’re delighted to be opening bookings for our epic-new Birmingham venue. Located in Five Ways, this prime location will be packed full of our most sought-after games including axe throwing, augmented reality darts, and our Boom Box karaoke booths.”

“We just know the people of Birmingham are going to love this venue and the ultimate competitive thrill Boom has to offer.”

Continuing the Boom craze

Rod Morton, managing director of Greenspan Projects, says: “Competitive socialising has become a huge market trend for us this year, both within the UK and across the US. What strikes me about the opportunities here is that the possibilities are endless in terms of imaginative and immersive theming and “outside of the box” playability. Where else, for example, can you shoot a golf ball through spinning bike spokes or transition straight from golf to baseball?!

“Boom Battle Bar like to get super creative in this sense, and that’s why it’s a partnership that really works – and why they have asked us to enhance multiple venues for them. From the initial “in-house” concept creation by our talented design team, to the operational elements led by our professional project managers, there has been a real buzz in the air about Boom at Greenspan Projects and it has been a genuine pleasure to bring this to life.

“There are more surprises to be revealed at one of the flagship venues in particular, so watch this space as we continue to carry on the Boom craze!”

John Whitehead, a project consultant for Greenspan Projects, says: “It has been a pleasure to work with Boom Battle Bar as they roll out their programme at such a pace. We originally met at the beginning of 2022, and immediately embarked on a rapid design and build schedule to arrive in June at Edinburgh to install our first 9-hole course. This design is completely new and unique to Boom and has been created and finished to fit in with the brand and style that is so exclusive to their venues.

“We are also currently installing at another four sites. The challenge we have set ourselves has required a huge amount of planning and build capacity to meet the opening deadlines – which is something that Greenspan relishes.”

Earlier this year, the company also announced that it will be working on a new community attraction in Glasgow, in collaboration with The R&A. Golf It! will be an indoor and outdoor destination that offers something for visitors of all ages and abilities, with three adventure golf courses, alongside a family putting green, a double-decker driving range, simulators, golf equipment libraries, tennis courts and a nursery.
