Zip World, an adventure company based in North Wales, is opening a spiral suspension track powered by gravity at its Penrhyn Quarry site in Bethesda.
Aero Explorer will suspend riders at more than 35 metres in the air, sending them soaring across the 400-metre track with two spiral turns at top speeds of 30 mph.
From 26 May, visitors will feel like they are flying through the air via a harness attachment as they enjoy spectacular views of what was once the world’s largest slate quarry.
Aero Explorer joins Velocity 2, the world’s fastest zip line, at Zip World‘s Penrhyn Quarry site. Additional attractions are Quarry Flyer, Quarry Karts, and the Penrhyn Quarry tour.
“This year marks Zip World’s 10-year anniversary and we’re so excited to be launching this attraction at our first-ever site,” said Zip World founder and president Sean Taylor.
“Aero Explorer is the first of its kind at Zip World, with thrill-seekers unleashing their inner adventurer as they glide through Penrhyn Quarry using only the natural landscape and the unique spiral towers to descend to ground level.”
Earlier this year, Zip World has launched a new aerostat attraction called ‘Skyflyer’ in Rhyl. The company’s first hot-air ballon-style ride takes passengers 400 feet into the air.
Opened in 2013 in Bethesda, Zip World operates five sites in Wales and two in England. Aero Explorer will be the fifth attraction at the original Penrhyn Quarry site, and the 24th in Zip World’s portfolio.

Adrian Jones, the former US president of Merlin Entertainments, recently joined Zip World as its new CEO.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be joining the Zip World team at such a pivotal time in the company’s existence,” he said.
“The appointment of Adrian signifies Zip World’s intent and ambitions to continue on its growth journey,” added Taylor.
