Jaap den Bleker

Jaap den Bleker is Team Lead Project Support within the Projects & Design division of Efteling. He is responsible for providing functional management and inspirational leadership of the team that is involved in aesthetic and technical design coordination, budgeting, estimation & feasibility, project coordination and construction management & execution.
The team’s primary focus is on the successful delivery of highly complex design & build projects, such as new attractions, hotels or other leisure related venues for Efteling Theme Park & Resort. Prior to his current role, he spent 12 years designing and producing rides and attractions for Efteling’s design department.
His session is at 12pm BST on 25th April 2023.
Nature and Efteling
Efteling is wholly owned by the Efteling Nature Park Foundation which was set up in 1952. The unique ownership of the theme park mandates a strategy to preserve the environment. Only 11% of Efteling’s footprint can be given over to buildings, with the remainder to trees, shrubs and water. The theme park a target to be carbon neutral by 2030 and climate positive two years later.
Efteling’s charms are still delighting visitors, with a record 5.43 million attendance in 2022. The theme park recently broke ground on its Grand Hotel as part of its World of Efteling 2030 development plan.
In order to meet its climate ambitions, Efteling has invested in solar panels and buys 100% European wind power. The new hotel will be added to the theme park’s innovative geothermal heating and cooling system.
Jaap will be talking about these projects and more at greenloop. He will be joined in the session by Charles Sainsbury, the Eden Project‘s Energy and Sustainability Manager.
This session is not to be missed for any organisation looking to reduce its carbon footprint through innovative green energy solutions.
Why should you attend greenloop?

With all visitor attractions needing to decarbonise and become more sustainable, greenloop will provide practical, actionable advice and case studies for our attendees, with take-aways that they can put into practice, as well as inspirational insights from industry leaders.
When it comes to solving really big challenges, like how do we build sustainable theme parks, resorts and cruise ships around the world, it takes all of us and all of these different industries coming together. And that’s what’s great about greenloop … our collaboration is key to really think about how we build sustainable themed entertainment experiences.
Emily Dow, Design Studio Executive with Walt Disney Imagineering at greenloop 2021
greenloop aims to connect sustainability leaders from across the attractions industry to enable us to move more quickly towards a more sustainable future.
greenloop is a must-attend event, crossing boundaries to bring together really thought-provoking insights and ideas around the way visitor attractions can not only minimise their environmental impact on the planet, but also act as catalysts for positive change. I cannot think of another event which goes near greenloop as a concentrated dollop of practical green inspiration – a must-attend for several of our team.
Dominic Hare, CEO Blenheim
