Reverse the Red, a global coalition committed to accelerating and amplifying successful species recovery strategies, will host the annual Reverse the Red Day on 7 February 2025. The event celebrates conservation success stories and encourages action to save species and ecosystems.
Throughout the week, Reverse the Red and its partners are engaging in discussions to speed up action, enhance strategies for species recovery, and align with national recovery goals.
Online forums
Reverse the Red invites all species and conservation professionals to join an online forum centred on transitioning from ideas to actions, improving strategy, and accelerating recovery-focused efforts for species-level actors. The organisation will facilitate a discussion that incorporates examples of successful strategies to reverse declines, halt extinctions, and recover species.
Speakers include Paul Pearce-Kelly, Fiona Sach, and Mike Hoffmann of the Zoological Society of London; Beatriz Mauri, Cadereyta Regional Botanic Garden; Erin Meyer, ReShark and Seattle Aquarium; Eugenia Cordero Schmidt, Center for Species Survival Brasil based at Parque das Aves & IUCN SSC Conservation Planning Specialist Group; David Field, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland & World Association of Zoos and Aquariums; Brian Zimmerman, Bristol Zoo; and Megan Barstow, Botanic Gardens Conservation International.
There are two offered times for this session: 6 February at 8 pm GMT or 7 February at 11 am GMT. Please register for the session that works for you.
Session One registration is here, and Session Two registration is here.
Reverse the Red is also inviting partners that work with governments or contribute to national biodiversity goals and plans to a discussion on how this global network is achieving species recovery nationally. Reverse the Red will facilitate a conversation that includes examples of national target setting and implementation for species recovery.

Species pledges
Organisations that have made (or are planning to make in 2025) a Reverse the Red Species Pledge could join Reverse the Read’s Species Pledge Contest, where they created videos that people have been voting on all week. These videos showcase the work an organisation is doing for a particular species, and voting is taking place here.
Winners will be announced during the sessions and Reverse the Red will also announce a new award.
“Overall, Reverse the Red Day is a great opportunity to showcase the work that you are doing, the impact you have for your species, and tie your work to this global movement working to halt extinctions, reverse declines, and restore populations. Join the global movement around conservation impact by sharing your stories,” says Reverse the Red.
“The tides are changing. We can have a future where species everywhere are thriving. Together, we can reverse the red!”
