accesso collaborates with Philadelphia Museum of Art

Project marks the first time that the technology has been used in a non-profit organisation

accesso Technology Group PLC, a leading technology provider for attractions worldwide, is collaborating with the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA), US, to enhance the visitor experience at its eagerly awaited exhibition, Mary Cassatt at Work.

The museum is using accesso’s acclaimed LoQueue virtual queueing system to accommodate the enormous demand for entry to the exhibition. This means that visitors do not need to stand in long queues and instead can explore the museum while waiting to see this important collection of works by the famed Pennsylvania-born artist.

With this project, the two organisations continue a collaboration which has been ongoing since 2014. In addition, the project marks the first application of accesso’s LoQueue technology at a non-profit organisation.

Steve Brown, CEO of accesso, comments: “This project with the Philadelphia Museum of Art is our first non-profit collaboration using accesso LoQueue. We are thrilled to provide virtual queueing technology to enhance their visitor experience and foster memorable museum visits.”

Enhanced visitor experience

Mary Cassatt, a French Impressionist, defied the expectations of Philadelphia’s elite. This exhibition shows a varied collection of over 130 pieces that illustrate the artist’s changing practice and commitment to the realities of gender and labour.

The museum anticipated high demand for the show and wanted a way to maintain the experience while managing visitor flow and enhancing engagement. accesso’s LoQueue solution allows visitors to join a digital line using their smartphones upon arrival, enabling them to tour surrounding galleries, have a coffee, or relax before entering the exhibition.

Paul Dien, chief marketing officer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, says: “Giving people the opportunity to have their phone wait in line for them has changed the game for us. The LoQueue sign-up process is simple for visitors, and we’ve also created an easy way for guests without smart devices to join the virtual queue, making it accessible for everyone.”

The system has improved the museum’s admittance process for special exhibitions by eliminating the issues typically associated with physical queues.

Sarah Taylor, assistant manager of visitor services, adds: “I appreciate how hands-on the team is. They provided ample information prior to the launch and scheduled numerous meetings to ensure we knew how to operate the system. accesso made sure we were aware of how customizable the entire system was.”

accesso’s virtual queueing technology has formed an integral part of the guest experience at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This project illustrates significant progress in handling high-demand museum exhibitions while prioritising visitor comfort and convenience.

Mary Cassatt at Work is showing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art until 8 September 2024.

Recently, accesso shared that it has partnered with Powerscourt Estate and Gardens in County Wicklow, Ireland to create the Powerscourt Gardens audio tour app. This aims to enhance visitor engagement and support sustainability efforts at the estate, which is one of Ireland’s leading attractions and the first to be certified by Sustainable Travel Ireland.
