Versatile platform turns outdoor spaces into magical immersive experiences

Beaudry Interactive, an experiential design and production studio that works with themed entertainment, museums, exhibitions, live shows, and branded experiences, is inviting collaborations with lighting manufacturers and designers to expand the reach of Light Sprites, a patent-pending technology platform that turns outdoor spaces into memorable, responsive fields of light.

The platform brings playful immersion to parks and plazas, festivals, themed attractions, and outdoor cultural spaces. Using a custom-built, field-tested system, Light Sprites recognises and responds to human presence in real-time, transforming inert spaces into interactive experiences without requiring screens, buttons, or wearables.

Beauty of light

Light Sprites appeals to a collective nostalgia for endless summer nights and chasing fireflies in the woods. By transforming any space into a captivating field of glowing lights, the platform evokes that timeless sense of delight and wonder.

Notably, Light Sprites uses innovative technology to respond to visitors’ actions and behaviours, creating a unique experience for every guest, from bursts of fireworks to flurries of fairy dust or imaginative wayfinding.

The system also responds subtly to environmental changes, for example, Light Sprites can shift in the breeze or ‘hide’ under trees when raindrops fall.

Lisa Passamonte Green, CEO and principal-in-charge of Visual Terrain, says: “As a lighting designer, the true magic of the Light Sprites is that they can BE or DO just about anything I can imagine.

“The intelligence that already exists in each Light Sprite means we can program individual or groups of Light Sprites within an environment to react or interact in truly fun and surprising ways.

“I am personally a huge fan of the Light Sprites because they allow me to expose people to the beauty of light and delight in the wonder of light; whether it is a single Light Sprite, a small group of them or an entire flock.”

Flexible & fun

Beaudry Interactive has tested Light Sprites at temporary installations, including a project in the gardens of the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles.

The interactive exhibit, which was part of their Summer Series, allowed visitors to investigate a living garden of Light Sprites that responded dynamically to presence, movement, and environment.

A key exhibit was the ‘Wishing Horn,’ a voice-activated prop that allowed visitors to whisper their wish. The Light Sprites would assemble in response, glimmering and flickering in a range of hues before slowly vanishing into the forested garden, taking the guests’ wishes with them for protection. The exchange became a quiet, magical ritual, and one of the standout encounters of the activation.

In addition to lighting effects, Light Sprites include:

  • Low operating costs. Light Sprites is a sustainable, affordable entertainment solution.
  • One system, endless possibilities. The versatility and modularity of Light Sprites enable venues to effortlessly switch between experiences and drive repeat visits.
  • Personalisation. Staff can enhance the Light Sprites experience with special wristbands or props, adding customised details that enchant visitors.
  • Seamless integration. The system integrates with existing lighting and show control systems for less hassle, and more wow.
  • Smart sensors. Visitors’ movements are detected in real time to create interactive moments that keep visitors engaged longer.
  • Up-sells and merchandising. Light Sprites has opportunities for upsells and take-home merchandise built in to boost income for operators.

Together, these features provide a smart, versatile platform which has been developed to engage visitors and reimagine outdoor interactive entertainment.

Beaudry Interactive will be exhibiting at IAAPA Expo in Orlando in November. Attendees can learn more about Light Sprites at the company’s booth.

Recently, the company provided its expertise in gamified learning to the Atomic Museum in Las Vegas. A new gallery space, Atomic Odyssey, launched in January 2025 and features four interactive exhibits with environmental soundscapes, lighting, and infographics. A specially commissioned work by artist James Stanford is also on display.
