The firm will help the event to highlight innovation and progress

Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, will provide its RGB pure laser projectors to light up a main exhibition hall at an upcoming Expo in Kansai, Japan, with parent company Ushio being named as a key co-sponsor.

During the opening and closing ceremonies and major events, Ushio Lighting Inc. (ULI) will supply more than a dozen Christie Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors. Expo 2025 Osaka’s theme will be “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” which aims to bring and share the world’s knowledge to help resolve global issues.

Highlighting world causes

Eight Signature Pavilions will be present at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which will take up a space of 1.55 square kilometres. Additionally, there will be a Future Society Showcase Project, which will include six major initiatives in the areas of smart mobility, digital, virtual, art, green, and future life. Over the course of its six-month run, the huge event is predicted to draw 28.2 million attendees.

“We are honoured that the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition is partnering with Ushio to illuminate not only the entertainment as part of the Future Society Showcase Project, but by shining a bright light on global sustainability issues and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2030,” says Christie chairman and CEO Hideaki Onishi.

“As a global lighting and technology company, Ushio and Christie employees around the world work hard to minimize our impact and improve our environmental practices. We believe light has the power to change the future.”

Dazzling audiences

As a co-sponsor of the Future Society Showcase Project, Ushio and ULI will review and oversee the more than a dozen Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors, which have a brightness of 50,000 lumens and are the lightest, brightest, and most energy-efficient in their class at 15.9 lumens per kilowatt hour.

Griffyn 4K50-RGB is versatile and bright, weighing only 197 pounds (89.3 kg), and yet it achieves 98% of Rec.2020, the colour space that is most similar to what our eyes can see. The Griffyn 4K50-RGB, chosen also for its low noise output, runs at 55dBA at full brightness, allowing audiences to be engaged in dazzling, clear visuals without being distracted.

The parent business of Christie, which has operations in more than 20 countries, is based in Tokyo. Christie’s technology is used in live events and spectaculars all over the world, including Expo 2020 Dubai which installed 252 Christie D4K40-RGB projectors in its Al Wasl dome.

Christie has been a major AV provider to world expos including Shanghai, China; Yeosu, South Korea; Astana, Kazakhstan; and Dubai, UAE. The permanent installations of the company include amusement parks, cinemas, command centres, and a range of attraction types.

Christie will be at ISE 2023 this month, the industry’s leading event for showcasing AV excellence, held in Barcelona
