Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, has announced that technology veteran Hideaki Onishi will take up the role of company chairman and CEO.
Onishi brings over three decades of management experience to the role from previous positions within Ushio, Inc. group, Christie’s parent company.
The executive starts his role with immediate effect, replacing Kazuhisa Kamiyama, who has completed his term with Christie and will return to Japan for a new role at Ushio headquarters.
Onishi says “It is a great honour to lead Christie. [The company] has a proud legacy of continued innovation, in its products, manufacturing, and in its ever-evolving business models. I aim to bring strong leadership and to honour principles of respect, transparency and integrity.
“Kazuhisa’s work was pivotal in navigating Christie through the many challenges faced in both the industry and the wider economy in recent years. I look forward to holding open conversations with all levels of the Christie team globally to learn more. I am excited for the journey ahead and Christie’s continued growth – it is an exciting time to be joining the company.”
An experienced professional
Onishi started his Ushio career in 1989, developing a strong talent for sales and demonstrating robust management skills at the company. He has an extensive scope of experience in various roles, working at divisions including ADTEC Engineering, Ushio Lighting, Taiwan Ushio Lighting, Ushio Asia Pacific (Singapore), Vietnam, Thailand and Ushio Europe.
Christie says that some of Onishi’s career highlights include steering the manufacture and sales of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) exposure machines that were acquired by Ushio in its acquisition of ADTEC Engineering in 2012.
The following half-decade saw the business grow stronger, leading to Onishi’s appointment as president of Ushio Asia Pacific in 2016. Hideaki is joining Christie from his previous role as Ushio Europe president.
“In good hands”
Outgoing chairman and CEO Kamiyama adds that he is filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude when looking back at his time at the company: “I would like to thank everyone at Christie for their hard work and dedication.
“Together, we have overcome unprecedented adversity and prepared the company for a prosperous future. I leave knowing the company is in good hands with Hideaki, and I look forward to seeing continued success for Christie.”
