Fulldome.pro, the projection dome expert, has shared details of its project to deliver a series of innovative flying theatres for the most famous space visitor centre in the US, The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
The firm supplied four 10m flying theatre dome screens, a 4m open dome screen, and five projection servers for the ambitious installation. Fulldome.pro’s negative-pressure geodesic projection domes are being used for some of the world’s most innovative flying theaters, and this project represents the firm’s most significant media-based project for the attractions industry to date.
Ambitious installation
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is an educational visitor attraction at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, US. The attraction offers visitors an intimate look at the history and future of human space travel. Guests can see real spacecraft, artefacts from previous missions, and demonstrations of advanced technology.
The attraction opened four ultra-advanced MX4D Motion EFX Flying Theatres in 2022. Each theatre has a 180-degree dome projector screen and four films showing various facets of space flight. Fulldome.pro delivered four 10m flying theatre dome screens and a 4m open dome screen for this project, and all four flying theatres/AV systems use Fulldome.pro servers.
Kate Erokhina, project manager at Fulldome.pro USA, says: “It was an honor and a privilege to contribute to this remarkable project at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Despite the challenge of installing four flying theaters simultaneously, the seamless integration of motion seats, effects, video, and audio has culminated in a state-of-the-art facility, which will hopefully serve as a source of inspiration for the next generation of astronauts.”
Visitors can experience a unique cinematic thrill on the 10m flying theatre dome screen and 4m open dome screens. Their feet dangle as they fly into the far reaches of the universe, while integrated MX4D special effects further elevate the 4D experience with wind, fragrance, audio transducers, and seat and back pokers.
Standard flying theatre attractions can be difficult for those with medical issues or disabilities. Therefore, a 4m open dome has been installed at the Kennedy Space Center with no vertical angle, allowing everyone to observe comfortably.
Fulldome.pro recently shared its insights into negative pressure projection dome screens and has shared how this technology offers a cost-effective solution for operators. Since it was founded in 2010, the firm has been committed to providing straightforward and affordable digital technology and dynamic programming to the planetarium sector. The firm has completed over 500 projects worldwide and is known as an international leader in the immersive dome industry.
