Culturespaces is opening its first venue for immersive digital art in North America on 14 September. Tickets are now on sale for Hall des Lumières in New York City.
Hall des Lumières is located within NYC’s oldest savings bank, previously known as the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank. The historic former bank has been redesigned and reimagined.
Culturespaces, a French foundation specialising in immersive art experiences, has various digital art attractions across the globe. These include Atelier des Lumières in Paris, which welcomes 1.4 million visitors a year.
The new location presents “new, innovative ways for audiences to interact with and experience artists and their work”, according to a news release.
Immersive art experience opens soon

It showcases new exhibitions “based on the work of different world-renowned artists”, beginning with the inaugural exhibition, ‘Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion’.
The debut installation features huge luminescent images of works by Klimt. Additional sensory elements include a special musical soundtrack.
The exhibition’s artistic team is led by Gianfranco Iannuzzi. His previous projects include an original digital experience using the work of Vincent van Gogh at Atelier des Lumières.
The experience complements “the marble walls, towering columns, stained glass skylights and coved ceilings of the grand space”, says the release.
New venue joins Atelier des Lumières

Other experiences on offer include an exhibition of works by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an Austrian artist inspired by Klimt. Guests can also check out a presentation about the history and design of the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank.
In addition, panels displaying images of Klimt’s paintings come with information about where to see these works at museums around the world.
Founded in 1990 by Bruno Monnier, Culturespaces operates Atelier des Lumières in Paris, Bunker de Lumières in South Korea, and Bassins de Lumières in Bordeaux.
“Our mission is to make art more accessible to a wider and younger public,” Monnier said.
