Firm has been named as a finalist in the Visitor Attraction category for its project at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center

project: syntropy, creator of technology and display solutions for dome cinemas and immersive attractions, is celebrating the success of its project at the iconic Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, for which the firm has been shortlisted for the 2024 Inavation Awards.

This innovative project has been named a finalist in the Visitor Attraction category of the AV awards, which are powered by Inavate + ISE. The winners will be announced at a gala event on 30 January 2024 at MNAC in Barcelona.

The Inavation Awards honour leading organisations from across the professional audiovisual industry, from technology manufacturers and distributors to consultants, AV integrators, and end users.

5D digital twin

SUPEC, the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, is situated in the centre of the city at People’s Square. While updating the building and reinventing its exhibition concept, SUPEC collaborated with project: syntropy to upgrade its static physical city model to a dynamic virtual five-dimensional digital twin.

With the use of a cutting-edge projection visualisation system, this enormous project sought to provide professionals, VIPs, and guests with an immersive and participatory urban planning experience that is in line with the master plan and mission statement of Shanghai 2035. The multi-level immersive project, known as the Digital Sand Table, has become the focal point of the display.

The Digital Sand Table utilises an enormous 20m by 10m curved panoramic screen. Projectors from Barco offer high-resolution visuals and integrate with a game engine-driven rendering system, resulting in an immersive and realistic, future-proof digital twin.

project: syntropy has also completed an advanced CAVE system at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Germany this year. The firm was appointed for delivery, installation and system integration of visualisation, computing and media technologies at the University’s Digital Development Centre (DEC) at its Iserlohn site.

As with the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, this project utilised advanced technologies to create a 3D mixed reality interactive environment.

Last month, project: syntropy announced that its sister company, domeprojection.com GmbH, has been acquired by VIOSO GmbH, a global supplier of automated alignment solutions for complex projection and visual systems.

VIOSO has acquired 100% of domeprojection’s shares in a deal that strengthens both companies’ positions as leading providers of auto-alignment solutions. This acquisition will open up new potential for system integrators worldwide in the AV and simulation sectors.
