SEGD (the Society for Experiential Graphic Design), a multidisciplinary global community of professionals, will soon host an industry event for the first time in three years.
Branded Environments and Xlab will provide two days of thought-provoking talks on 13-14 October 2022, in New York, US. These events are scheduled to coincide with New York Digital Signage Week, which takes place 10-14 October 2022.
Branded Environments
Sessions include The Birth of Branded Environments led by designer, educator and author, Richard Poulin who will celebrate the life and work of one of the most influential graphic designers of the mid-twentieth century, Rudolph de Harak. The session will be followed by Q&As, as well as signings of Poulin’s latest book.
The Magic of Las Vegas will be brought to Branded Environments with a series of panellists who will explore the trends in entertainment and hospitality that make the city the Entertainment Capital of the World. Case studies will examine iconography, reinvention, and how technology has been integrated into the tourist hotspot.
Bringing Stories to Life with Local Artists will investigate what curiosity, spirituality, and creativity have to do with marketing brands and workplace environments, whilst Brand Experiences that Improve Culture will explain how research, design, and strategy can be used to transform the approach from “selling design” to conveying compelling stories that add value and solve problems.
Xlab
Returning after a one-year hiatus, Xlab looks to the future with attendees able to learn how designers are striding into the next phase of digital with technologies including AR, VR, Web3, the Metaverse, and NFTs.
Electrosonic‘s Chris Moore will be joined by Brian Mirakian for the Xlab Keynote, Stepping Into The Digital Frontier. With the events of the past two years having accelerated virtual products and services, this session aims to bring a real-world approach to these opportunities and discover new ways the industry can employ these platforms to diversify businesses and create collaborative spaces.
Xlab will also feature Art of Digital Storytelling, a series of four presentations exploring emerging technologies further. Speakers include Abigail Honor, Jean Pierre-Dufresne, Joel Krieger, and Vanessa Till Hooper.Â
Branded Environments takes place on Thursday 13 October, followed by Xlab on Friday 14 October 14 hosted at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
Tickets can be purchased for a single day or both days at a discounted rate, with optional tours available in Manhattan. Registration is now open online for the event through the SEGD website.
Earlier this year, SEGD announced its first-ever class of Fellows, celebrating industry professionals who have created a body of work and demonstrated design leadership to the highest standard.
