Topgolf Glasgow, a new technology-enabled golfing and entertainment experience in Scotland, has held a topping out ceremony ahead of the scheduled opening in late 2022.
The state-of-the-art venue in Rutherglen covers an area of 45,000 square feet. It is part of Clyde Gateway, Scotland’s biggest and most ambitious regeneration programme.
Topgolf’s first location in Scotland joins more than 70 locations across six countries. The tech-driven sports experience attracts more than 30 million players every year.
Topgolf’s VP of international, Steve Lane, said Topgolf has “a proven track record of providing top class entertainment and fun for both golfers and non-golfers”.
The attraction in Glasgow will be “the first in the UK to use our signature technology; utilise micro-chipped golf balls and Toptracer technology”, Lane added.
“Our construction partners have been hard at work preparing the site and kicking off building works and it’s already starting to take shape,” he said.
“We’re on track for our launch at the end of this year and we’re looking forward to offering more sneak previews of what to expect very soon.”
Topgolf Glasgow will feature 72 climate-controlled outdoor hitting bays. Topgolf venues also offer high-tech gaming, chef-driven menus, hand-crafted cocktails, and event spaces.
“Clyde Gateway has worked with South Lanarkshire Council and Ashfield Land to attract investment into the site and we are thrilled to welcome Topgolf to the area,” said Martin McKay, executive director of regeneration at Clyde Gateway.

“The new jobs with Topgolf are a further economic boost for local communities and Clyde Gateway and South Lanarkshire Council are working to ensure local people have every opportunity to secure employment,” he added.
“With the nearby Cuningar Loop Woodland Park undergoing major expansion, the arrival of Topgolf reinforces the emergence of this part of Clyde Gateway as an important leisure destination.”
Elsewhere, X-Golf is taking its indoor golf simulator concept to St. Louis County, Missouri. The new location will also feature a restaurant and bar, with plans approved by the Ellisville City Council.
TOCA Football, which is billed as the Topgolf of soccer, is launching its TOCA Social entertainment venues in the US, starting in early 2023. The expansion follows the successful opening of TOCA Social at The O2 in London.
