David Harland joined Eden in January 2013 as finance director and now serves as CEO of Eden Project International, launched in 2014. Harland is leading Eden’s international expansion plans in China, Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica. He has also overseen all operational aspects of Eden, as well as its refinancing and commercial activities.
In addition to the international expansion, Eden Project International is developing projects across the UK. These include Eden Project Dundee, Eden Project North in Morecambe, Eden Project Foyle in Derry, and an Eden attraction in Portland. The original Eden Project opened in 2001 in Cornwall. Harland was born and raised in St Austell, Cornwall and studied French and German at the University of Exeter.
The Eden Project has been hugely influential in the creation of green attractions since it first opened. The planning application for Eden Project North was recently submitted to Lancaster City Council. Harland said the submission follow “years of hard work from the Eden team and our partners and a reflection of our many conversations with the Morecambe community”.
