David Harland joined Eden in January 2013 as finance director and now serves as CEO of Eden Project International, launched in 2014. Harland is leading Eden’s international expansion plans in China, Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica. He has also overseen all operational aspects of Eden, as well as its refinancing and commercial activities.
In addition to the international expansion, Eden Project International is developing projects across the UK. These include Eden Project Dundee, Eden Project North in Morecambe, Eden Project Foyle in Derry, and an Eden attraction in Portland. The original Eden Project opened in 2001 in Cornwall. Harland was born and raised in St Austell, Cornwall and studied French and German at the University of Exeter.
The Eden Project has been hugely influential in the creation of green attractions since it first opened. Eden Project North, which will reimagine Morecambe a seaside resort for the 21st century, has been granted planning permission by Lancaster City Council after a planning application was submitted in September 2021.
