The British Association of Leisure, Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA) is holding its annualHealth and Safety Seminar Wednesday 29th November atThe Drayton Manor Hotel in Tamworth.
With over 300 members, BALPPA represents the interests of the UK's commercial visitor attractions. Members include theme parks, zoos, aquariums and family entertainment centres (FECs).
Robert Kluth of Lorica Leisure will discuss recent changes in how personal injury awards are calculated. He will highlight how this impacts the level of liability insurance needed by operators of visitor attractions.
Dawn Elsom of Merlin Entertainments will talk aboutThe Apprenticeship Standard. This is a unique new training programme designed specifically for the leisure industry. She will explain how this can be of value to both operators and those looking to work in the attractions industry.The standard for a leisure and entertainment engineering technician was developed by a number of British attractions companies. These include Merlin, Warner Bros. BALPPA, The BIG Sheep, Harbour Park and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Trends in safety and security
Mobaro Park's David Bromilow will outline the benefits to operators of the digitisation of safety data.
David Yearley of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROPSA) will highlight current trends in safety and incidents in the world of indoor and outdoor play.
Other presentations at the Health and Safety Seminar come fromEric Dench ofMerlin Entertainments (security in crowded places) andAlex Payne of Blackpool Pleasure Beach on the "human factor".
There will also be updates from Luke Ditchburn of ADIPS andCameron Adam of the HSE.
